Dr. Wegman was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and is a graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School. He grew up playing youth hockey for the St. Louis AAA Amateur Blues and while at DeSmet he helped lead his hockey team to the state championship. From high school he was accepted directly into the medical school program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he received his undergraduate and medical school degrees. During medical school he was accepted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society for finishing in the top 5% percent of his medical school class.
After medical school, he completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Missouri where he was chosen as the Chief Resident. While during residency he had extensive training in both operative and non-operative fracture care at the level one trauma center University of Missouri Hospital. He also had the opportunity to work with the team physicians for the Mizzou sports teams exposing him to a wide range of sports medicine injuries and treatment.
It was during his residency that his passion for hip and knee replacements developed and so he pursued a fellowship in hip and knee replacements. He was one of two fellows selected for the University of Chicago hip and knee replacement fellowship where he worked with leading surgeons and developers of much of the modern technology that is used in hip and knee replacements today. Dr. Wegman has been an invited speaker at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons meeting for his research in hip and knee replacements and has research publications in leading Orthopedic journals.
While completing his fellowship Dr. Wegman was recruited by several universities to train residents and fellows. He ultimately decided to join the private practice of Woods Mill Orthopedics for the one-on-one relationship he can develop with his patients and the great reputation of the group. Dr. Wegman is a fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement specialist at St. Luke’s and in addition to hip and knee replacements he also accepts referrals from other Orthopedic Surgeons for revision hip and knee replacements and complex cases. He also enjoys treating patients for sports medicine injuries and fractures.
