Dr. Rames Jr. was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and attended John Burroughs School. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio with Honors and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Following his undergraduate studies, he did orthopedic basic science research at the University of Chicago focusing on cartilage restoration and subsequently graduated from Rush Medical College. While at Rush, he developed a passion for taking care of patients with orthopedic problems and was accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society.
Upon graduation from medical school, he returned to St. Louis where he completed his orthopedic internship and residency at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital. While training, he gained experience taking care of a breadth of patients suffering from a diverse array of orthopedic pathology. He received extensive training in the care of traumatic injuries and fractures at one of the busiest level one trauma centers in the Midwest. He took care of sports-related injuries while working with the team physicians for the St. Louis Blues. Ultimately, he was drawn to hip and knee joint replacement because of the tangible benefits associated with restoring a higher level of function in patients.
He pursued this passion further during an Adult Hip and Knee fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While training with world leaders in hip and knee joint replacement and preservation, he learned contemporary techniques, approaches, and technologies including robotic-assisted joint replacement, computer navigation, and partial knee replacement. This opportunity prepared him to deliver the highest quality evidence-based care to his patients even in difficult situations. He enjoys developing lasting relationships with his patients and providing up-to-date information to allow them to make informed decisions about their care. He accepts referrals from other orthopedic surgeons for revision hip and knee replacements, infections, and complex cases.
While at Washington University in St. Louis and Mayo Clinic, Dr. Rames Jr. did research focusing on joint replacement outcomes and presented his research at national meetings.
Dr. Rames Jr. is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the St. Louis Orthopaedic Society. He ultimately decided to join Woods Mill Orthopedics because of the ability to develop lasting relationships with patients while providing care in world-class facilities amongst a collegial group of healthcare providers.
